~ A first in Mumbai, this new technology named ‘Kinevo 900’, will prove to be beneficial for all neurosurgical and spine patients ~

Mumbai, December 22, 2022: K J Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre inaugurated Mumbai’s first ever Neurosurgical Operating Scope (Kinevo 900) and Advanced Neurosurgical Drill System on 22nd December. Kinevo 900 is a state-of-the-art product which makes its way to the city of Mumbai for the first time ever, and will be critical in assisting patients undergoing neurological and spinal issues. This was possible with a sizable donation from the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay Queen's Necklace and K J Somaiya Medical Trust.

The ’Kinevo 900’ is a Robotic Visualization System, which supports neurosurgeons during microsurgical procedures by providing a range of functions. It combines high-performance optics and robotics, alongside a superb user interface and structured user guidance across all components.

Neurosurgery involves great surgical precision, dedication, passion and finesse. Apart from superlative skills and continuously improving their execution, surgeons must keep pace with unremitting scientific and technological developments. The neurosurgical operating microscope is the key weapon in the neurosurgeon’s arsenal. The ‘Kinevo 900’ is such a weapon, which offers highly sensitive robotics, quick-to-learn operating elements and high-performance optical equipment, which enables surgeons to focus on procedures without disturbances. This outstanding system improves the cooperation, learning and participation of all participants, and also aids in medical training.

Shri Samir Somaiya, Chairman, K J Somaiya Medical Trust, said, “The inauguration of this microscope is a remarkable achievement for Somaiya Ayurvihar since it’s the first ever in Mumbai. The microscope is one of its own kind and would provide an enormous range of functions to the neurosurgeons and would definitely prove to be beneficial in the treatment of patients. It is a highly advanced piece of technology that offers high-performance robotics and optics and advances user interaction, thus enhancing surgical certainty through intra-operative digital imaging. I am absolutely delighted with its inauguration and the milestone the hospital has achieved.”

Speaking about the inauguration of the microscope, Ms. Mita Sheth, District Chairman, Inner Wheel District 314, said, “It is truly wondrous to see how far we have come in the field of science and technology. This microscope is a prime example of what human beings are capable of. I am certain that with this innovation, numerous lives will be benefitted, including both – patients and surgeons. As the K J Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre adopts this technology for the first-time ever in Mumbai, I think that is a milestone for them as well as for the healthcare industry in India.”

Dr. Abhidha Shah, Neurosurgeon, said, “As an alumnus of K.J Somaiya Hospital and Medical College, it gives me immense pride to be here. The microscope that we inaugurated today is truly world-class; and the fact that this is its first-ever installation in Mumbai, is something that needs to be celebrated. I thank Kinevo for providing us with this amazing piece of technology and of course the K. J. Somaiya Hospital & Research Centre for making this possible. I am positive that this microscope will have a significantly influential impact on the neurology sector.”
