Microbiology

Our excellent Clinical Microbiology Laboratory provides rapid detection and characterization of infection-causing organisms assisting early initiation of most appropriate antibiotic treatment.

Overview

Diagnostic Microbiology is the study of identification of disease causing microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, protozoans and fungi using microscopy, staining techniques, culture methods, biochemical tests and immunologic assays. A suitable sample is collected from the patient and processed by one or more of the above methods. Along with identification of the organisms their susceptibility to various antimicrobial agents is also tested for timely administration of the most appropriate antibiotics resulting in faster cure and prevention of resistance.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at K J Somaiya Hospital is functional 24 X 7 and offers a wide range of diagnostic assays for a large number of infectious diseases. Our laboratory follows all standard Quality control norms to ensure accuracy of test results.
